Sweet Tamarind

Tamarind (Tamarindus indica) is a leguminous tree (family Fabaceae) bearing edible fruit that is indigenous to tropical Africa. Botanically, the tree is among the large tropical trees belonging to the family of Fabaceae, in the genus: Tamarindus. Scientific name: Tamarindus indica. The tamarind tree produces pod-like fruit that contains a brown, edible pulp used in cuisines around the world. The pulp is also used in traditional medicine and as a metal polish. Tamarind's tender young leaves are used in Asian cuisine. it is cultivated around the world in tropical and subtropical zones.

Most tamarind found in the world have a sour taste. There are only a few places that are sweet tamarind. Thailand is an excellent source of sweet tamarind cultivation. Especially in Phetchabun province. Phetchabun has rich water resources throughout the year with fertile soil . There are minerals that are not like anywhere else in the world. Therefore, tamarind is sweet, tasty and unique. Sweet tamarind is grown mostly in Phetchabun due to the cool weather and suitable environment. Farmers gain a lot of income from tamarind and it is symbolic of Phetchabun.
